Lanao del Norte Provincial Governor Imelda Quibranza-Dimaporo inducted Vice-Mayor Hadji Rakim U. Alingan as the new municipal mayor of Pantar, Lanao del Norte replacing the late Mayor Mohammad Exchan G. Limbona who died untimely in an ambush carried out by unidentified perpetrators.
Dimaporo also inducted Sangguniang Bayan senior member Palagawad A. Macauyag as the new municipal vice-mayor when Alingan vacated it upon assumption of the local chief executive.
They were sworn in on Monday, January 9, 2017.
Limbona was ambushed in Dalipuga, Iligan City, on December 29, 2016 by unidentified suspects.
Police Supt. Leony Roy Ga, the city police chief, told the media the mayor was on an SUV with his wife and daughter; and two escorts when fired at in Barangay (village) Dalipuga around 9:45 p.m. Thursday.
His wife and daughter were unscathed but his two escorts were wounded, he said
Police investigation is still on-going as to the cause of the ambush while manhunt operation of the perpetrators is conducted.
By law of succession, the vice mayor shall have to assume and perform functions, duties and responsibilities of the office of the mayor vacated permanently until its term ends.
Likewise, the senior councilor has to assume the position of vice mayor when it is permanently vacated.
